SF shares 70% sequence identity with armadillo T02977 and 63% identity with plakoglobin [1];
SF increasing levels of beta-catenin in the ventral side of the early cleaving Xenopus embryo induces the formation of a secondary body axis;
SF using beta-catenin deletion mutants it was shown that the armadillo region of beta-catenin - which could interact with APC and C-cadherin - appears to be able to induce this axis duplication;
SF beta-catenin is required for the association of alpha-catenin with cadherins [3];

FF may link E-cadherin to the actin cytoskeleton;
FF may also participate in transmission of developmental information [1];
FF binds to the cytoplasmic tail of the epithelial cell-cell adhesion molecule E-cadherin and forms a complex that interacts directly or indirectly with actin filaments;
FF furthermore it may participate in the transmission of developmental information [1];
